In tribute to the inevitable post-Thanksgiving guilt that creeps up on us all after we've eaten for 48 straight hours, here's a great Public Service Announcement on how you get fat.
Although The Brothers McLeod weren't celebrating Thanksgiving themselves (these witty gents are based out of the UK), they were able to hit upon the same key ingredients that cause us to hit the gyms en masse as they do across the pond (ie: sugar, butter, oil, lard). Good to know some basic truths still cross all cultural boundaries!
If you have some time, check out some of The Brothers McLeod's other videos- all of the animation is absolutely spectacular, as is the overall originality and creativity behind their ideas and concepts. There is a constant sense of this "intelligent" sense of humor throughout their material, as well as a strong political and/or social commentary flowing throughout the dialogue.
This is the first of two clips from YouTube poster peterg14 of Aaron McGruder’s popular and controversial cartoon on Adult Swim called The Boondocks. Renowned for its racy language and subject matter, the show pushes social, racial and political boundaries in a smart and over the top kind of way that both shocks and educates the lucky viewers of the program. So much so that the fascinatingly-coiffed civil rights leader Al Sharpton spoke out against the show’s overuse of the very word that has made former Seinfeld star Michael Richards quite infamous as of late.
The show revolves around two African-American brothers just moved from the inner-city to an outlying suburb called Woodcrest in search of a better life with their grandfather. The boys, Huey and Riley Freeman, are ten and eight years old respectively and on opposite sides of the American black experience in cities throughout the country. Huey is the militant and socially conscious deep thinker who idolizes revolutionaries like Che Guevara, Malcolm X, and Sitting Bull. And Riley, his wild younger brother, is a wannabe gangster deeply influenced by the media’s proliferation of a negative and violent black stereotype seen in rap videos and movies.
Throughout their travels, the boys quickly find out that life in the suburbs is much different than what they’ve come to expect in the city. And as a consequence they often find themselves at odds with the good people of Woodcrest over a number of socially divisive issues. In this particular episode one of the boy’s neighbors is picked up by the police for fitting the general description of a recent “X-Box Killer,” and the boys are asked to help get him out of the jam. But what’s so good about this episode is that it quickly becomes a giant analogy for the United States Government’s search for Osama Bin-Laden and the subsequent war in Iraq that followed.
Enlisted to help are fellow Woodcrestian gangsters Gin Rummy and Ed Wuntscler—two characters who serve as caricatures of US Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsefeld and President George Bush. Wuntscler (played by Charlie Murphy of Chappelle’s Show fame) is the dim heir to the Wuntscler family fortune who continually gets a free pass for his deviant behavior because of his father’s influence in the town. Gin Rummy (played by Samuel L. Jackson) is Ed’s fast-talking friend who is the brains behind the criminal schemes the two are always immersed in.
At the end of the episode the entire crew ultimately finds themselves in a drawn-out shootout after Ed and Rummy abort their original mission and attempt to rob a local convenient store owned by a man who looks a lot like Saddam Hussein. Of course, the Hussein-like character and his friends offer fierce resistance to the takeover and the X-Box Killer is all but forgotten as the combatants and the townspeople turn their attention to the epic battle taking place in the convenient store…
This episode is brilliant, simply put, and is a great introduction to one of the best shows on television today. That said, I sincerely hope you enjoy it as much as I have.
Finally, the individuals being yelled at by Michael Richards have appeared on television. Of course they were accompanied by their new found friend, an attorney. The two men Kyle and Frank explain some of the events leading up to Richards’ racist rampage, which really helps to fill in how things go so out of hand.
Apparently, they had come with a group for a friend’s 26th birthday, which some of us already heard. While they were getting their seats in the balcony, they had to talk a lot with both ushers and waitresses. Supposedly this is what first got Richards’ attention and he made a slightly racist comment even then. Anyone who has been to the Laugh Factory before can sympathize with their situation as the place is very chaotic, the staff can be unclear and rude when telling you where to sit, and it’s usually loud enough in there that you have to tell your waitress what you want a couple of times. I personally have had a number of similar problems there, so that seems perfectly reasonable.
Richards’ initial remark had prompted one of Kyle’s friends to say Michael was not funny and Kyle had repeated the sentiment, but loud enough for Richards to hear. Accordingly, Michael Richards was incensed and began yelling racist remarks at the group even before the torrent that someone captured on video.
The two men go through the rest of what happened (most of which you’ve probably already seen or heard) and finally their lawyer comes on. Now I am no law student, but her plan of action seems mildly retarded. She is seeking restitution in a purely symbolic court that will hold no real legal weight. I agree that he could be shamed into paying, but she needs only press the media further by getting her clients on more shows to make that happen. Plus their continued appearance on shows means money for both them and her, so I really can’t understand why she would want to waste anyone’s time with this mock trial idea.
No matter what I’m sure this story is not over yet and hopefully some kind of beneficial outcome is possible for all parties involved. Many of us have certainly learned from this and Mel Gibson’s debacle that no matter how we try to cover it with social pleasantries and politically correct speech, racism still exists in America and we would do well to confront this issue now rather than continue to sweep it under the rug.
Everyone and their mom has probably seen the Adam Sandler movie “Billy Madison,” but this is my all-time favorite scene. Worked up to be the hero scene of the movie when Sandler’s character, the drunken and immature simpleton named Billy Madison, turns around it all around and shows his new-found intelligence in front of his friends, family, and fellow students during a question and answer game he must win in order to take over his rich father’s business from evil adversary… unfortunately it doesn’t work out for this particular question, but the chastisement given by the question-master afterward is priceless… May God have mercy on your soul.
I get a little queasy whenever I watch this particular video by TAMAdrums8 of an amateur contortionist who claims to not be proud of his double-joints. It is an unusual “talent” to have the ability to jump rope with your own arms, and perform some of the other ridiculous feats this man performs on the video. He’s shy, so he dons a mask to conceal his identity while he twists and turns his bodies in ways god only intended for him and other freaks like him. Personally, I think he belongs in a circus or carnival somewhere so he can share his strange curse with the rest of the dumbfounded and gawking world. And if that doesn’t work there’s always the porn industry… Either way, there’s no reason to be ashamed of this—this is a great video!
If you ever tried to run up a wall, perform a flying roundhouse, or demonstrate your awesome nunchaku skills this video is for you. GingerAnne gloriously sacrifices her dignity for everyone to see in her latest stunt video and of course it’s hilarious.
Her brother’s camera work is pretty good and the editing is hilarious. The slow motion parts make even her misfires look awesome, which makes you wonder how cool many martial arts stunts really are. I think that the main music is from Kingdom Hearts (or another video game) and the homemade sound effects add a lot of charm and humor to this already funny video.
Interestingly many people on YouTube have taken the video quite seriously and there are now a number of pointers on how to perform kicks correctly and how to run along the side of walls. I can only assume this will inspire more people to run out and make videos of themselves trying to do the same stunts. Hopefully with the same comedic conclusions.
Many people in the states don’t either pay attention or don’t much care for sports happenings across seas. But on Tuesday two of the most historic soccer clubs in the world (Manchester United and Celtic) faced off against each other in European club soccer’s most prestigious tournament, the UEFA Champions League. Think NFL playoffs if you need a frame of reference.
Celtic eventually won the game by a score of 1-0, and the final whistle is where this video takes flight. Celtic won the historic matchup in their home stadium of Hampden Park, and, as is the tradition, their fans serenaded them off the field with a spine-tingling rendition of the song “You’ll Never Walk Alone” to show their appreciation of the team’s inspiring effort against another giant in the game. If you have any appreciation for sports or just sitting in the stands and being a fan, you’ll be in awe of the emotion that has overcome these Celtic supporters as they let their team know—wherever they may go—they’ll never be alone.
This one is short and sweet! We all get spam email, especially those ones that are filled with some kind of text that appears to be like every bad book we've ever read. What do we do with them? We press delete, and then go on our way!
Well, that's not what the Brothers McLeod have done. They have dramatized the text we receive in those emails, and put it in animated form. This is their first look into Spamland. Funny stuff. Short to watch, so check it out!
Every ten seconds a report of child abuse is filed. As a survivor of child abuse myself, the message of this video hit especially close to home for me. DigitilSoul once again tackles a hard issue with his honesty and no frills approach to video logging. He has a straight forward manner of speaking about this issue that makes you really want to listen.
The video itself is quite lengthy at just over thirteen minutes, but the message is important enough that the length doesn't matter. He discusses the different types of abuse, and towards the end of the video he has a montage including statitics and images of abuse in the world.
The video is hard hitting, honest and definitely worth watching. DiGitilSoul is quickly becoming one of my much watch video producers. I can't wait to see his next work.
Some videos start off bad, but end up good! At least that is the case for this video from DavidJr.com. The video is a mix of live action and animation, which is something truly hard to pull off and pull off well. Who Framed Roger Rabbit and Cool World are two big screen examples where this was done before.
This video isn't on par with those movies, but after a choppy opening sequence, the video did get better at mixing the two passably well. The video stars DavidJr himself as he battles foe after foe with a sword he has stolen. Will the story be continued? We'll have to see!
Let your voice be heard! This video is yet another in the series of interviews by the BeHeard group. These videos aren't long, but the shortness in length is made up for by the video's message. We see people talking frankly about their life and experiences, and how they became the people they are today. This video shows Mario Bennett talking about his mother's drug addiction, and how seeing what that experience put his family through prevented him from following a similar path. Definitely worth taking a minute of your time to watch this video.
With animation, you have good animation and bad animation. This animated video done as Master's Thesis for a school in New York City is an example of excellent animation. If I didn't know better, I would have thought I was watching the work of a person with much more experience on the big screen.
The video tells the story of Kiwi, a flightless bird. His one dream is to someday fly among the clouds, but he knows if he does he will die. Before he does, he creates a vertical world where he can feel as if he is flying instead of just falling off a cliff. He does this by nailing trees along the side of a mountain. This could also be seen as a take on the destruction of nature depending on how you look at it.
As for the animation itself, it is nearly flawless. Definitely top notch animation, and it appears it has generated a lot of discussion about the message behind the video in the comments to it. This video is definitely worth checking out.
From YouTube.com user: capo420420 Nice for the eyes and the ears Watch this! No, listen to this! No, watch this! Here is something to boggle your senses. Yes, the music is very soothing and melodic. But when you see the style in which this music is played, you'll be doubly impressed. Keep in mind, people, this is a Guitar, not a Piano. As someone who has taken guitar lessions (and failed....), I am extremely in awe of someone who can alter the way it is played and still hold onto the musical quality. This is a pleasant clip for the ears and an amazing feat for the eyes...
Ever wanted to take your favorite song and make your own music video for it? Well, that's just what this group of people have, and you know what they did a pretty damn good job of it. So many try and fail, but this video might be one of the best I've seen.
We have so many people in this video, but they all come together and make it work as they sing along to the lyrics of Wind it Up by Barenaked Ladies. Yes, there is some nakedness, but don't worry all the important parts are covered up. This video is just funny with some good editing and great footage. Even some puppets get into the action. Check it out for yourself.
Thanksgiving maybe over, but this video is too funny not to share! This video comes to us from Bison Films and Spencer the Gardener. I present to you, The Gobble Song. It is a song in honor of one of our favorite holidays and that lovely beast that ends up on our dinner tables each and every year.
The song is definitely funny, and the footage in the video makes it even more so. Here we have people singing along and joining in by doing the gobble dance. Great short music video worth checking out. The turkeys are safe for another year!
What was that lyric again?! How many times have you said that when listening to your new favorite song? You listen and you listen, and you still can't get it right! So what do you do? You start singing along, and you throw in what you think it is. At least that's what I do anyway. However, when you look up the actual lyrics, you find out just how off you really were. There are whole entire websites devoted to misheard lyrics.
Well, this video pokes fun at one such instance of misheard lyrics when it comes to the song Wishmaster by Nightwish. The video creator takes the song over images of people think the lyrics are. Of course, the lyrics are oh so very wrong, but it definitely makes for some great comedy in the process. Watch the video for a laugh, and then when you're done you can check the real lyrics for the song here.
The Ska Brothers Take on CBS! The other day I wrote about CBS' dominance over YouTube since they began posting clips from some of their most popular programming. I knew it wouldn't be long before someone tried to poke just a bit of fun at CBS taking over YouTube like it has. This is probably only the first such video.
Here we have a video under the username 1CBS. However, who is behind this username? Well, its none other than comedian team, The Ska Brothers. They have been mentioned on this site before. When it comes to YouTube and comedy, these two are hot stuff. According to this video, they receive 50,000 media hits a day. That's a lot of hits!
This video shows a discussion between the Internet and Hollywood and CBS does come up! The video is pretty simple, with a straight shot on the brothers. It was a bit on the dark side as well, but the comedy is good. That's what this video's purpose is. Plus, a little self promotion by the brothers thrown in. Something tells me the little guys of YouTube won't let CBS take over for long!
I'm now Spock's Biggest Fan!! When you watch GTV's spoofs of Spock and the Star Trek gang, remember that they are creating each movement with the dolls used. They have animated these characters to a Tee. I'm impressed and entertained. Watch and have fun. Laugh with them, not at them!! These guys got it goin' on~~
