Living in Los Angeles, you either have a car, or you go nowhere. At least that’s what most of us think. We forget that though public transportation here is horribly inefficient, we sometimes miss out by being stuck in our little bubbles driving down Sunset or on the 405. We miss out on the people and the culture of big city life.

The interaction of diverse lives is what makes a metropolis so wonderful to live in and LisaNova’s little trip reminds us of just that.

I'm confused at Lisa's editing choices sometimes. In this case, I didn't understand why she began the video with nothing to say really, then she finally gets to her subject matter at hand.

I thought maybe she was going somewhere humorous with it, but then there was jump cut and she was back to reality. It seems odd that all that wasn't just edited out.

That said, LisaNova has the gift of being interesting and entertaining to watch, period.

Even if she is just sitting in front of the camera with nothing to say. Maybe it's because she's unafraid to do just that, and to be self-deprecating ("I have A.D.D." ... "See, I was just lost in the clouds...") and the confidence to show us her true self, perfect or otherwise.

And on the driving in LA theme, here's a Randy Newman video from 1983 on that same subject, but his underscores the driving element. It's fun and it shows all (the best) parts of this huge city. The music, the hair and fashion really takes you back to '83 ... assuming you remember 1983.

A touching video about a child with Leukemia. Watching her in her hospital bed you can’t help but be moved. Jacey is a child that clearly understands what is important. Along with this, if you want to do something noteworthy, go ahead and give the ‘hug’ that Dammit Productions requests. In the end, you’ll feel better that you did.

Now this is what the "worldwide web" and "community" is all about: Bringing people together from around the world, all connected only via their individual Internet connections for the purpose of creating something meaningful and to share in a cause in the spirit of the Christmas. Hokey? Maybe. Successful? Incredibly.

The cause was a simple one: to bring together voices from the YouTube vlogging community in a choir of sorts to present The 12 Days of Christmas. A simple cause but no small undertaking. But if the definition of a successful cause, by YouTube standards, is a high number of views, then this one is a smashing success. This entertaining video (as of Dec. 17) has surpassed 1.24 million views. (And they received 3288 comments.)

In early November Matt5413 posted a video request asking others to send in their renditions of the traditional Christmas song. After all the entries were received Matt5413, SilentWhistle and Zipster08 went to work creating this very creative piece of living art that wove together not only the many varied voices, but also the lively images and personalities of each of the 'choir' members.

Kudos go to the flawless editing by SilentWhistle, with production help from Zipster08. (I'm still trying to figure out how he kept everyone's singing in time with the musical track that carries the song throughout the video.)

What makes this piece more layered and interesting and infinitely more watchable is the homespun nature of it. Some of collaborators have, um, well, shall we say less than professional sounding voices, while a few of the voices are very impressive. The backgrounds, lighting and sound quality are all varied and most are imperfect. And again that's what brings the community feel to this and makes you want to stay for every verse.

I apologize for sounding like a cliche, but successful efforts like these that obviously involve many hours of tedious work without the thought of monetary reward are what Christmas is all about. Excellent work.

This is a slide show that depicts jessicapeanut’s opinion of Dick Cheney. It is a very powerful slide show. If you do not like Dick Cheney then you will agree with jessicapeanut. If you do like Dick Cheney then you will not agree with her and will probably not like the video. But wait! Even if you do not like Dick Cheney, you should watch this video. Jessicapeanut has done a fabulous job of putting a slide show together with music. The music and pictures compliment each other very well.

Gilligan's Island meets Lost meets some old horror flick. They are eating Thurston Howell III, Gilligan has kidnapped Mary Anne and the Skipper wants his TiVO. If he doesn't get it, he may serve the Professor up for dinner.

You'll enjoy this spoof by Kenrg. It tells the true story of what REALLY happened on the island.

Kenrg actually looks like the professor would look about now. Hmm. Maybe this isn't fiction after all. Maybe there really was a three-hour tour. Maybe they've been there all this time, going more and more insane until they finally resorted to cannibalism ... somebody please rescue the Professor! He's about 180 miles south-southwest of Hawaii.

Have a Voice is a protest video from jessicapeanut encouraging us to speak up against the war in Iraq. It's a beautiful collage of greiving Iraquis and Americans, flag-draped coffins, people weeping together and images of the war. In the beginning, she displays the statistics that tell how many both sides have lost. She ends with nearly two minutes of black silence. It's a beautiful video that will touch your heart no matter what you believe about the war.

Jessicapeanut has produced a solemn video in protest of the Military Commission Act of 2006. The video compares the proposed 21st century immigrant detainment facility to 20th century detainment camps for Communists, Socialists and Jews. The Military Commission Act puts us on the slippery slide that turns us into the Axis of Evil. We become what we hate. It's a powerful video with a potent message.

With her usual skill, jessicapeanut has created a heartwrenching video plea to stop the war. All war. Especially poignant are the pictures of little girls and old women, those most devastated by war. One little girl, all dressed up in ruffles, holds a rifle like a soldier--a profound contrast between what should be and what is. The images are a perfect fit for Blackeyed Peas' "Where Is the Love?" Yeah, where is the love. And can we please stop the war now??

Lucy’s video to her fans is largely a music video for “Dancing with Myself,” but I don’t understand why she chose that song.

The video is shots of her goofing off at the office where she works. It's after-hours and she’s playful and silly, and as always, fun to watch. But it just doesn’t really match the music except in tone.

But check out this video for the first appearance of Kerim, whom we will be seeing a lot of in upcoming videos.

Lucy’s video of her family was an attempt to prove to people that she is a real person. The video is great if you are a fan of Lucy and want to see some of her roots. Her mom’s view of moving to LA to act is one shared by many mothers who’s children have gone away to pursue their dreams. Most enjoyable is watching her grandmother, whom she is there to visit.

Lucy’s video is half travel guide for Hollywood and half music video for “I Walk Alone”. She shows all the famous places in Hollywood and of course someone just happens to be making a movie there that day. The video, however, is not too representative of what Hollywood is really like. Mostly there are a ton of crappy touristy stores, tattoo parlors, and wig shops (oh and a bargain suit store). The setting works great for her purposes though and even though most people who live in Los Angeles don’t go there very often, Hollywood remains the backdrop for any person aspiring to be in films.

Lucy’s blog asking for submissions that she can act out is a great idea. I just wish she had followed through with it. I don’t know if she never got any scripts or that just never shot them, but it would have been fun to see her act and to see what people on YouTube had written about it. This was right about the time her legitimacy came into question though and I think she got too bogged-down by that (check out the production light behind her, on the right).

Lucy’s callback story is hilarious and shows off her storytelling abilities nicely. It is wonderful to see her so elated which of course makes her even more compelling to watch. Only Lucy could turn something as embarrassing as being walked in on in the bathroom into something as great as a callback. I hope that her luck continues so that we can keep getting such glowing vblogs.

Remember that song "Parents Just Don’t Understand"? Well that’s what Lucy’s blog is about this time. Her mom does not understand the entertainment industry and YouTube, but she is still helping Lucy. She just questions everything that Lucy does and she wants something better for her daughter. Sound like anyone you know? Yeah parents are pretty much the same universally.

Lucy is again upbeat about LA and points out some of the many good things Los Angeles has to offer to balance out the horror stories she’s been telling. LA is a city made up of countries and so there is tremendous diversity in terms of food and culture. Add to that the thousands upon thousands of talented people who are here to pursue their dreams and you have a wonderfully exciting city with surprises around every corner. Check this video out for a nice change of pace and just to watch Lucy be her charming self.

This is the video everyone was waiting for: Lazydork in bed. Apparently he’s the only person that sleeps in his glasses or he’s faking it. Regardless of it’s realism, I really like the song in the video. I would much rather be awoken by that than my current “beep, beep, beep”. Oh and yes, Lazydork sleeps on the couch, but it looks like he has a really comfy blanket. Send donations to him so that he can get a bed though.

Lucy’s acting video is good in that she is doing something proactive for her career. She shows a wide range of emotions on this video, but they are somewhat muggy and may be a little too much for film. Mostly I just would have liked to see her do a monologue or a scene. One good monologue can show tremendous range without having to do 2 minutes of facial expressions. This is still fun to watch if you are a fan of Lucy like I am.

This video is wonderful to watch because many of Lucy’s previous videos had been so pessimistic. Lucy is teeming with excitement about this movie which makes her even more fun to watch. Even if her review of “Little Miss Sunshine” wasn’t as good as it is, just her mood shift should make you want to see it. That is what I liked about “Little Miss Sunshine”: it makes you feel giddy and elated for a couple days after you see it.

People abuse their positions of power in any industry, but the entertainment business is probably the worst. Lucy’s story of the sleazy manager is one most aspiring actors have heard many times before. Hopefully she’ll be a little wiser after this and will be able to see things like this coming and deflect them before they get out of hand. My favorite part of this video is that she doesn’t answer the phone when it rings even though she’s supposed to be working.

Skinny people dominate the Hollywood landscape and on screen they reign supreme. Lucy is right that the entertainment industry instantly labels you, but I think she falls into several niches. She’ll find someone casting her type sooner or later and she’ll get work from then on. I agree that there are entirely too many horrifically thin people in LA, but that just makes Lucy unique and she should use it. The video is kinda washed out, but you probably aren’t watching it for the lighting.
