Mark Day's deadpan delivery along with his Scottish accent make his irreverent video blogs on current events come off as very intelligent because they slice to the heart of whatever his is attacking without a pause for laughs or his own snickers. He goes for the jugular.
This is another good one, cutting right to the, uh, meat of his subject matter. Another timely topic, this time he compares Britney's latest infamous adventures ("accidental" crotch flashing) to doing comedy and using timing to your advantage. Is she crazy like a fox?
Mark calls these stand-up comedy gigs staged on video. But although they are edgy and very funny, I'd prefer to call them wickedly funny social commentary. Whichever way you slice it, whatever he is discussing, he is always on the mark and always funny.
You may also enjoy this clip of a funny rant on SNL about Britney's recent over-exposure caught on film. Her parents must be so proud.
We've seen this a hundred times before, but this one turns out very differently. Someone gets an 'A' for an amazing editing job.
A scene from the African Savannah with the Cheetah chasing down a lone Antelope, both speeding through the brush at 30 mph, a la National Geographic or Discovery Channel. We know what's going to happen to the poor meal on four legs ... then out of nowhere a guy apparently jacked up on too much caffeine gets into the chase and, well... Watch this.
This is one that's been on YouTube for a while. An oldie but a keeper. Enjoy!
An innocent man is thrown into prison after a provocative sounding comment is overheard on an airliner. He's put into solitary confinement, hence his lonely terrorist status. It's Jerry's latest video blog somehow smuggled from behind the walls of a detention center.
In reality Jerry and lonelyterrorist15 is the very funny creation of the talented yet humble comedy team, 'TheGeniuses'. As of this writing they have only one video posted on YouTube, with several more on their website: www.thegeniuses.tv
All the videos there are just as humorous and all are very professionally produced. When will they post them on YouTube? We're so anxious for more that we may just start a donation campaign to post bail money for Jerry.
Another twisted, laugh-out-loud comedy from the TrueNuff gang. These guys always swing for the feces, I mean fences. With all the swearing -- which is not gratuitous in this case because of the context. I won't ruin the punchline by telling you why. But, like their other videos, you'll giggle until the very last scene.
The humor is racy, the acting is straight and delivered with punch and over-the-top raunchiness to bring laughs at every line. But the make-up and costumes? Well, these guys excel in their acting and writing. You'll either love 'em or be very very offended ... and then love them in the privacy of your office with the door closed.
A young man drops by his parents' house to chat and have a sandwich and it deteriorates from there. Note the fruit bowl on the table and the arrangement of the contents. Get Dr. Freud on the phone.
Hey, Jessica. This is a hard one for me. It's a perfectly appropriate, surprisingly gentle poke at evangelical Christendom, dedicated to Ted Haggard and set to the song, "Son of a Preacher Man." She doesn't single Haggard out, though; she includes Jerry Falwell, Jim Bakker, Pat Robertson and others. Oh, how the mighty have fallen, and keep on falling. That's what we evangelicals do--fall over and over and over again. We don't all fall as publicly or with as much humiliation as these guys, but we all fall. We all keep screwing up, and everything they say about us is true. Thank God for Grace. And thank Jessica for being gentle, and for the humor that helps us see ourselves as we really are.
This is a "Thank You" to everyone who worked hard to make a change in American politics this past November. The ever talented and left-leaning jessicapeanut has put together a beautiful photage of notable democrats with U2's "Beautiful Day" playing in the background. Name captions would have been nice; I didn't recognize everybody in the video. I didn't see Golden Boy Barak Obama, but enjoyed a glimpse of Elder Statesman Ted Kennedy. "Celebration" is the right title for this video. I especially enjoyed the parting shot of the White House....
The Republicans are having a bad post-election day, and jessicapeanut says, "Get over it." This is a wonderfully ironic mix of sad Republican photos and political cartoons. The slides are perfectly timed to the words in the song, "Havin' a Bad Day." What a hoot! It's not mean, but definitely sends the message--the times, they are a-changin'. Deal with it, boys.
Gr8Shotz posted this vlog before Halloween, but a discussion of the paranormal is always appropriate, right? I like the black and white video and the seriousness of his presentation, contrasted with brief flashes of the paranormal, including pictures of Bigfoot, chupacabra and a big-headed alien. Gr8shotz is a skeptic, but he'll accept that ufo's exist because he's seen them. Can we convince him of the existence of things strange and alien? We'll see when he vlogs about his viewers' responses.
Remember all the flack about the Dixie Chicks criticizing President Bush? Did you know there is a movie coming out about what happened to them as a result? I thought not. As Jessica says, "It's the trailer no one in the media is showing." If you care about freedom of speech, watch the trailer, and then see the movie. Thanks for broadcasting this, Jessica. Way to use public media for public good.
Another intermission! I love these animal videos, and "In the Jungle" has long been one of my favorite silly songs. (Don't know about Silly Songs? Check out VeggieTales.) Jessica does a great job of putting these videos together. Where does she find all the cute animal images? I like Mouse on Frog, and Jessica, that is one big, honkin' turtle! Oh, my mistake. Tortoise. Anyway, it's huge, unless its friend is a mini hippo.
The title pretty much says it all. The news segment on Saturday Night Live with Amy Poehler ranting about Britney exposing herself for the world to see. Hardly an accident when she had no underpants on and the car was surrounded by cameras. Britney knows exactly what she's doing. Milking every drop of her fame, er infamy, until it's dried up.
Sometimes I'm amazed at how the more things change, the more they stay the same. Only, perhaps, worse. Ed Starr's "War" was perfect thirty years ago for Vietnam, and it's perfect now. You can't draw true comparisons between the two wars; Iraq isn't Nam. But you can still cry out, "War! What is it good for? Absolutely nothing!" Please, please, let's stop the war. Thanks, Jessica, for bringing Starr's song back to life for one more protest.
Oooh--I liked this one. Ann Coulter-types tie my knickers in a knot. They take the values of Christianity and twist them into a gospel of hate. Listen to the words of Green Day's "American Idiot," and watch the fast-paced anti-Ann slide show. The video is pointed directly at the Hypocritical Hatemongering Heresy espoused by some (thankfully not many) conservative Christians. There were some skinny woman images that I couldn't quite connect to Coulter, but I loved the video anyway.
After viewing jessicapeanut's political vlogs, this is like intermission. It's a break in the rhythm; something totally different. She's labeled it "Something to make you smile, hopefully." This is a whimsical animal music video for "Don't Worry, Be Happy" that will put a smile on your face.
Jessicapeanut has produced a solemn video in protest of the Military Commission Act of 2006. The video compares the proposed 21st century immigrant detainment facility to 20th century detainment camps for Communists, Socialists and Jews. The Military Commission Act puts us on the slippery slide that turns us into the Axis of Evil. We become what we hate. It's a powerful video with a potent message.
Accompanied by a plea to "Vote in November," this is an irreverent look at the only politician in the US who wasn't and isn't running for office--George Bush. My favorite images are Bush getting direction from Glenda the Good Witch, the Bush platform and the "Morticians for Bush" signs. There were other great images, too, that make jessicapeanut's pre-election video stand out. Can you imagine Gollum-Bush? If Bush were running, you'd want to vote for the other guy--and history shows most of us did. Can you say Lame Duck?
With her usual skill, jessicapeanut has created a heartwrenching video plea to stop the war. All war. Especially poignant are the pictures of little girls and old women, those most devastated by war. One little girl, all dressed up in ruffles, holds a rifle like a soldier--a profound contrast between what should be and what is. The images are a perfect fit for Blackeyed Peas' "Where Is the Love?" Yeah, where is the love. And can we please stop the war now??
